Happy Valentine’s Day!

This Valentine’s Day was so special to us because we were able to visit the Buena Park Nursing Center again with Servant’s Heart Charismatic Prayer Group and Holy Family Young Adults. I recently just accepted the position of Community Service for SH so this was the first joined service I helped out with.

img_0047We gave flowers and cards to each resident and it was so nice to see them so appreciative and happy to see us (especially the little ones).

We all had so much fun spreading the love of Christ to everyone there and we hope to come back soon. It’s a great feeling to know that Jesus is inside each one of them and we are teaching our children to give joyfully.

I Love My Mother :)

I’m so glad our whole family was able to celebrate my mom’s birthday together. Her birthday is February 2nd and is always 2 weeks before mine. It was so cute to see the grandkids with their Lola, especially with them trying to blow out the candle :) .picture-3img_0445

My mom really inspires me with her outlook on life. She has been blessed by our Lord with strength and joy and I admire her positivity even through her trials in life. I’m praying to have an attitude  more like her and always remember my blessings. We both have issues with our vision & my mom has taught me to focus on what I can still see and to trust God completely with my health, knowing that He is always taking care of us.

The other night she mentioned to me that no one is born a saint. I’ve been thinking about what she said and have been meditating on it, remembering that everyone has struggles. God leaves it up to us to choose whether or not we want to grow from it and become a better person from them. We can choose to become more patient,  compassionate, or whatever it may be that would help us grow.

What seems to help me most is when I focus on staying positive and reaching out to others. I’m truly blessed to have a mother who has taught me so many lessons throughout my life and continues to teach me how to live a good Catholic life through her daily example. She has done so much for our family and I know her love for us is unconditional and an extension of God’s love for us.

Lord God,

Thank you for always taking care of my mom. Please bless her so much more in return for all of the love she has given us throughout our whole lives. She is my hero and has a beautiful soul and I pray that I can be more like her. Please let your Holy Will be done in her life and continue to bless her with all that she needs. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

I love you Mommy!

Our Wedding Anniversary

tandiama-0716

This past month, Michael and I celebrated our two year anniversary with our two kids JJ and Leilani.  We decided to all go to Downtown Disney which is where Michael proposed to me (while he was carrying Leilani, who was holding the ring :) ).  It’s nice to look back and remember how God’s plan for our family unfolded.

We’ve been through so much during the last couple years.  There have been many great memories we’ve made along the way and there have been many trials  with our health. It has mostly been the trials that have helped shape our character, strengthen our family bond and our faithfulness to God.

Michael and I try our best to live out our vows to each other each day (especially the part ‘in sickness and in health’). I think the most difficult part in the beginning of our marriage  were my expectations that I never voiced. I had to learn that I had to be more open and honest if I needed help with things like house cleaning and not just assume that Michael knew where to help.

Now that we both have  issues with our health we try to be there for each other even when we aren’t feeling well ourselves.  We are  learning to trust God’s great plan for our lives even more, walking side by side in thankfulness and patience, raising our children together  and  continuing to reach out to others.

Thank you God for blessing us with this Sacrament of Marriage.  I am so grateful to have married a man of God who is so devoted to his family and our well-being. We know you are taking care of us through the live-giving love we have for one another. Please guide me in my motherhood and as a wife. Bless and protect our family and give us what we need to do your holy will. We will continue to serve you and strive for what is pure and good. We love you so much and we praise you for you have blessed our lives with so much love and joy. Amen!

Celebrating the Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ

HFYA and Kakolika

HFYA and Kakolika wishes you a Merry Christmas!

This Christmas season has been filled with many blessings.  Recently, we had the opportunity to dance and sing Christmas carols at the Buena Park Nursing Center and Artesia Christian Home.  We are so thankful for what God has allowed us to do with this ministry and I can’t wait to be able to do more services like these.  I was very humbled standing in front of the residents who were so welcoming and sang along with us as we tried to spread a little Christmas cheer.  Many of them asked us to come back and visit them throughout the year and I pray that we will be able to.  I truly felt the presence of Jesus within each and every person we met.

Thank you Lord for such an awesome experience!

Our First Sweet Leilani Rosaries Customer

Dani is a good friend of ours whom we met through my sister, Emeline, about three years ago.  Dani used to work with my sister a while ago and became really close friends.  When I first met Dani, I never thought I would ever be close to her.  But as time when on and I got to know her, I realized she has a great heart and was someone who I really wanted to get to know.  And through Emeline’s help, she’s formed a beautiful relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and is now a faith-filled Catholic. She’s helped my sister go through a lot in her life and she’s become a great blessing to our family.

One thing I would like to share about her is that she gives so much of herself to her loved ones.  Through all the stories she’s shared with me about her family and friends, I could tell how much she cares for people and how much they love her in return.  Even though I don’t see her much now a days, she’s always in my prayers.  I joke with her sometimes about how busy she is because she’s so popular J.  For a while she used to give me regular massages because of the myofascial pain syndrome/fibromyalgia that I have. I really miss those days when we bonded as she told me her life stories. She’s a massage therapist and would give me deep tissue massage many times with her elbow, which hurt so much but in the end was able to relieve a lot of tension that I was feeling. She has helped me tremendously and for that I will always be grateful to her.

For our wedding we chose her as our Rosary Sponsor.  Even though she was new to the Catholic faith, she has been an awesome example to my family and I, on how to trust and surrender to our Lord.  I feel so blessed to have witnessed the journey and transformation she made through her Confirmation and conversion.  It reminds me of how we are meant to be childlike and be open to the love God wants to bless us with in our lives.  How His love can grow inside someone’s heart and mold it to reflect His beauty.

When Leilani and I started to make rosaries, at first we were only planning to give them as gifts.  We gave a flower shell rosary to Dani as a present one time when she wasn’t feeling well.  We were so happy that she really liked it and also excited when she told us that she wanted place an order.  One time we were texting back and forth and I told her that I couldn’t believe that she wanted to actually buy a rosary that we made. She said she didn’t want to just buy one, but like five!!!  I replied back saying that I thought that was so awesome that she was giving us so much support and that Leilani and I better get to work soon J.

So, I just wanted to share with you this great experience with you all.  How God is so good to bless us with this great mission of making rosaries to share with people to bring them closer to Jesus through praying to our Mother Mary through the Holy Rosary. Thanks be to God!

Our Prayer for Dani:

Dear Lord,

We want to thank you with all of our hearts for bringing Dani into our lives.   We love her so much and know that you love her even more.  Please pour down your blessings into her life- in her family, health, occupation, friends and wherever else she may need it.  She is so giving of herself and wants only the best for her loved ones.  We ask that in your goodness, that you bless her with the desires of her heart in return.  But most of all, please grant her the special graces that you wish to give her through your holy will.

GRACE~ God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense

Thank you, Dani for all of your love and support and for just being you. You mean so much to my family and I and are so grateful for your friendship.

We love you!

Hello again!

We’d like to wish Jennevee, Archie, Michael, Jaymee and Jay Happy Birthday! It’s almost the middle of November and we’ve celebrated so many birthdays this month already. And in less than three weeks we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving…what a fun month :) .  It’s also been pretty busy for me, learning and working on new hula dances to teach the group as well as Leilani and a group of students at her school for Christmas time.  I’ve also been working on rosary orders from my sister, Marianne’s students and from my cousin Amabelle.

Thank you to all of you for your interests in the rosaries and for your patience :) .  You will be receiving the rosaries this week which were made with a lot of love and prayers :) .

I’d like to say thank you to my husband, Michael for all of the love and dedication he has shown to me, our family and God.  As you can see from this website and the fruits of this ministry, that he is a very supportive and encouraging husband and father.  Kakolika Hula Ministry was only something that I thought would only turn out to be wishful thinking.  But because of all of his efforts in making it come alive through his talents in music and making the website, tshirts, logo and videos many people have been blessed through our ministry with this extension of God’s love and joy.  He’s really into technology and something I really love about him, is that he uses the material things he has for God. Just like how tonight  as a family we prayed and listened to  the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary from our iTunes library on our Apple TV. Leilani was  following along great and JJ was paying attention for part of the time (the rest of the time he was acting silly :) ). It was so nice to do together that I hope we can pray the Rosary every night. Other neat things we have are the Rosary and Universalis applications on our iPhone and with the Universalis there are daily readings and prayers, just like Magnificat.  So many people are very blessed and gifted with talents and things from our Heavenly Father (musically, artistically, financially, etc.)  but do not used those gifts the way God intended.  How much more awesome the world would be if people really developed and reached their God-given potential. How much more great an impact that would be on hurting people searching for more than what society has to offer them.

Although our group has formed just this year, I can still feel God’s hand continue to guide us along.  We have the desire in our hearts to uplift His beauty and goodness in a world where it is easier to stay on the broad path where society tempts us to think and act a certain way. And I have to admit that it can be hard at times to  stay on that narrow path, where we are constantly going against the current. But that is what we are called to do and press on, for our Lord will equipt us with all we need to follow His will.  We are parents but it is not the only reason why we try to make better choices in our lives but because we are temples of the Holy Spirit and children of God.  Since it can be tough, it is our prayer to join our brothers and sisters in Christ praising Jesus unceasingly in joy so it may radiate into others’ hearts.

So, thank you honey for always standing at my side, where I need you the most. Thank you for all of your hard work, sacrifice and perseverance you show us each day.  For being a great example of a man of God who is devoted to his children and wife, encouraging us to grow individually but most important spiritually.  As we raise our children and live out our Catholic faith I pray that God will continue to use us in building up His kingdom here on earth.  May God richly bless you with good health and true joy that not the world but our Lord can only give.  May you continue to be given strength and wisdom as a leader of our family and ministry that God has given us.  I love you with all my heart and I am truly blessed to be your wife and best friend. Happy Birthday :)

We love you, Sherylin!

Sherylin is my adorable goddaughter and Leilani’s second cousin. They are two years apart and are great friends as well.  Last month we celebrated her birthday at Red Robin, Camelot and Libby Lu-where the girls especially had a great time getting their nails, hair and makeup done.  I usually don’t let Leilani wear makeup but I didn’t mind this time since it was a special occasion and I knew she was really excited about going.

Sherylin is such a big girl now and is already in 1st grade. I love when she calls me Ninang Roselynn with her cute little voice.  This past summer Leilani and Sherylin took soccer lessons together.

It was so funny to see them holding hands while everyone was chasing the ball. After class they would keep playing and do cartwheels and giggle.

Dear Sherylin,

We just want to tell you that we love you so much and we are so proud of you because you are growing up to be such a beautiful princess of God :) .  You are also a great daughter, cousin, godchild, student, Ate and so much more!  We can’t wait to see you again and maybe one day you can dance hula with us! That would be so awesome :) .  We hope you like the rosary we made you and enjoy reading your Princess Bible.  Keep up the good work in school and please say hi to your mommy, daddy and cute baby brother.  You and your family are always in our prayers and we pray that God will always bless you and keep you in His arms. Remember that we are always here for you if you ever need anything and that you are so special because God made you. Thank you and your parents for inviting us to celebrate your birthday with you.  We had so much fun! You are so sweet and caring :) .

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHERYLIN!  WE LOVE YOU :)

Oktoberfest videos

To the Kakolika Hula Ministry:   I just wanted to say thank you again for all you’ve done for our ministry.  I know we’re pretty new but you guys have put so much into the practices and preparations for Oktoberfest.  It was so fun to come together and join one another in glorifying our Lord.  We are so honored to have each of you become a part of Kakolika.  It is my prayer that God will continue to bless this ministry with abundant graces with hopes that you may be able to use and develop your gifts and talents to reach out to many souls along the way.  I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to be able to serve side by side with my friends and family, especially being able to teach Leilani and pass this on to her.  And I can just imagine how awesome it will be to have our younger children and future children take part in the ministry as well. You all did an awesome job and I can’t wait until we can praise God together again.

  With love,                                                                                                                                           Roselynn

Happy 1st Birthday to Baby Lea!

Baby Lea posing for the camera with cousin JJ :)

We just wanted to wish Baby Lea a very Happy Birthday!

Lea is my sister Marianne’s daughter.  Her real name is Meleana which means Marianne in Hawaiian.  She was born three weeks after JJ and has grown to be such an adorable loving girl.  Leilani and her are very close and now JJ and Lea are starting to play with one another too.  It’s so cute to see them all play together especially with all four cousins (including Jacob-my other sister, Emeline’s son).

It’s so exciting as we watch them grow up together. It reminds me of my great memories I had when I was little with my siblings and cousins.  I pray that they will all grow up to be close and help one another throughout their lives.  We can’t wait to meet Lea’s baby brother or sister on the way too :) .

We love you Meleana! And we pray that God forms you to be a great princess of God.  That he keeps you in His loving arms and continues to bless you and your Mommy and Daddy and baby brother or sister. Amen!!

A Gift to Be Shared

My good friend, Marlene was interested in learning how to make rosaries to give as presents to friends and family.  I met her in Hawaii in 2004 for my sister’s wedding.  Her and her husband, Marlin, are professional photographers and Marlene is also a makeup artist. Besides doing photography Marlin also works with my husband Michael.  It’s really cool how they’ve both done mine and my sisters’ weddings and we’ve all developed great friendships with them.  We don’t see each other much since they’re so busy with weddings but it’s great to catch up with them when we get the chance.   They have really great hearts and whenever we see them they always make us laugh. They also have two wonderful kids named Ray (who is really smart and kind) and Zoe (who is so adorable and sweet). They’re  like family to us and as we got to know them we learned how much we have in common. God has truly blessed them and they’re so gifted in what they do. So I felt so honored when Marlene asked me to teach her how to make rosaries.

One night, this past summer, I was able to show her what I knew even when I only had a couple different styles of rosaries. And since then, she’s been able to make rosaries for people and has recently shared a simple story with me  that touched my heart.  Marlin’s grandmother had been really sick and Marlin and Marlene would visit her frequently in the hospital.  Unfortunately she passed away but out of all the sadness and grief that they were going through, Marlene was able to make a rosary for her which was placed in her hands.

When Marlene told me this, I was so inspired and I thought that this was a beautiful story.  So, thank you Marlene for reminding me how God really does work through our lives and for allowing me to share the treasure that I have found with you :) . I know that His light will continue to shine through your family because of your faith and joy in your hearts!

I enjoy teaching others what I have learned.  Most of the rosaries Leilani and I make are pretty simple but sometimes can be time consuming.  And as we make them we pray for the person who will be receiving it.  It’s awesome to be able to give a rosary we’ve made as a gift and see people appreciate them.

Leilani gave one of the rosary bracelets to a receptionist at our doctor’s office. Her name is Raina and she was so happy when Leilani gave it to her.  She said that she’s never had a rosary before and that was her first one!  Praise God for that opportunity and for such a caring daughter.  I pray that Leilani will continue to share God’s love throughout her life.  It’s so inspiring to witness her thoughtfulness and to see her little ways of building up God’s kingdom here on earth :) .
